Default Starting as a Mesmer: Proph, Factions or Nightfall??

Hello everyone, well im back since a year ago was my last stand at GW. Now im back and i wanna get in the game like if i was a newest player (actually almost i'm) So the thing is that i want to make a character over, start to play the whole game again and beat the 3 campaigns (and thinking about buying GWEN) and i decided that mesmer will be a really really challenge.

So, what campaign of all 3 should be the first and more convenant or comfortable to start with my mesmer?

P/S: If im wrong about starting over with a Mesmer please tell me, is that i like a lot challenges and actually the "weird" things.

Thank You.

Proph is the best learning curve but is the longest in time consuption for the campaigns. (But there are ways arround it if you need to (Runs skip missions etc...)) Mesmers take a lot of work to be good at. They are one of the funnest characters to play IMO. Don't be afraid to make mistakes like interrupting at the wrong time/ wrong skill etc.. it is going to happen Just learn form your mistakes and move on.

I agree with Painbringer - Prophecies takes a long time, but has some of the best skills overall. Nightfall imo has the best balance of pacing and leveling. Then, you'd need to travel over to Prophecies to get the campaign specific skills that many Mes builds utilize. Factions has some pretty good Mes skills, too!

So - I guess it depends on what you want to do. I have all 3 (no GWEN, yet), and like NF best. Prophecies is frustrating me with its grind, so I bounce from campaign to campaign depending on my mood and what skills I might want to capture.

Also, Prophecies takes the longest to actually get to where you can cap elites, unless getting ran or using elite tomes.

I honestly prefer a factions character to start mesmers, and indeed, most characters on. Why?

~Factions offers an array of useful skills available very near the start.
~It has the Shortest Tutorial Period
~If you Transfer to Prophecies, you only have to do 5 missions for all the great skills and elite of that campaign to be available, versus having to go through the entire thing for them.
~You have a much Easier time with Nightfall because you don't have to farm points in between quests to continue.
~It offers the fastest Ascension
~It offers the Fastest ways to Level 20

That's why 7/10 of my characters are from factions.

I would go for your appearance first i prefer going for the looks of the char in stead of where it's born. You will get the same skills/titles one way or the other. It's just a matter of time, i think. While prophecies takes the longest. you can make it quik. Get a run from Ascalon city -> beacons -> droknars (max armor)
-> LA -> sanctumcay -> all desert mission -> ascending : level20
That doesn't require much time if you have a friend who can run it. from there on you can decide if you want to continue with tyria, or go to cantha/elona

I agree with calynda, appearance is something the character will have forever. If you start on factions/nightfall, it may be worthwhile to travel to proph right away and work backwards to ascalon, that way you save a lot of $ by doing the plethora of skill quests in prophecies instead of buying them all

If this is your first mesmer, start in Prophecies. Prophecies gives you a lot of free skills as quest rewards, and usually gives you the skills you need right when they're needed. The slower learning curve will also give you some more time to practice with your skills and find out which ones are most effective in which areas.

Prophecies has absolutely no grind... what so ever lol

but nightfall does it makes you grind the sunspear title in order to move on in a hero shall lead them and in the begenning makes you grind to level 5 12 or first spear for a couple of quests.

nightfall makes you grind

prophecies doesn't.

what do you define grind as.. o.O

IMO i'd make a mesmer In Prophecies because it makes the other 2 campaigns easier to beat once you get their because less quests. and better for nubkeyks.

i would agree with painbringer however, a mesmer seems to work better in the beginning of NF when u only have beginner skills (unless u have tomes). i would suggest either NF or factions as factions has fastest acension time and levling time but nightfall is fun and isnt hard unlike proph which has slowest:
lvling
acension
campaign finish
and time to get max armor

I started in Proph and it wasn't too bad. My only real complaint is that you don't get Power Spike quite soon enough if you are just playing through normally. But Proph is so easy that you can pretty much Emapthy and Backfire your way to Lion's Arch anyway...

id rather just go through cantha, since its faster, but i do like the models for male and female mesmers better in phrophecies. NF is also kinda fast, but less so than Factions. Plus, as said before, its nice if you can get power spike earlier than later.

Depends what you're going for. If you're experienced with mesmers, Factions. If you're completely new to them, Prophecies.. there's more learning time, and it gets harder at a steady pace, instead of jumping from level 12-14 monsters to level 20+. If you're sort of in-between, Nightfall.

Of course, if all you're going for is appearance, it's personal choice, but I'd say Proph. :P

I say proph because Mesmers are pretty much in god mode in pre-searing. So many good skills so fast = wasting mobs left and right. Of course, it all kind of goes down hill from there. Just get some tombs and go to town after the searing i say...

Edit: I'm assuming that you intend on beating all three campains anyways so it doesn't really matter which one you start with. I am making my judgement on which one you will have the most FUN with. After all, it is a video game. You're supposed to have fun playing it.

if you want to level as fast as possible Prophecies might be the best way, but you're probably going to need a little help (and unless you've got some good guildies you're gonna need to pay for that help).

1. Get out of presear.
2. Get a run to LA.
3. Head to Kamadan
__a. Pick up your heroes
____i. Don't forget to grab either Sousuke or Jin
__b. Consider grabbing the Sunspear Rebirth Signet in Sunspear Great Hall
4. Grab the Ferry to the Consulate Docks
__a. While you're in the Consulate Docks consider grabbing some max armour
5. Get the ferry to Kaineng Center
__a. Assuming you didn't get your max armour at the Consulate Docks get it here
6. Do quests, get to level 20.

There are alot of very easy quests in Factions around Kaineng. Start first with the quest where you beat up the Jade Brotherhood and the Am Fah become friendly. Then go and do the quests in [url=http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Wajjun_Bazaar#Wajjun_Bazaar[/url]Wajjun Bazaar. It's alot of running but you'll be able to rack up a bunch of xp rather quickly as most of the quests give 3000xp. Then go pick up some more in Kaineng, like The Drunken Master.

After that, it's up to you.

If you just want to play the story through, well, then, again, Prophecies. Just start at the beginning, take you're time and enjoy it from beginning to end.

Factions Mesmers look the best, and you'll be level 20 before you even finish loading the login screen...

So you can quickly jump over to Prophesies and Nightfall and cap some elites or take up whichever of the 3 storylines interests you most.
